Climate, weather and public health

Climate and weather have an effect on human health. Heatwaves increase illness and deaths, and bushfire smoke and dust storms can worsen respiratory problems. Climate change is a threat to the environment, development, and human health and wellbeing.

The Victorian Government acknowledges that it has a role to play in protecting the community from the effects of climate change and extreme weather events.
